One of the most important skills in research is not generating new ideas. The real challenge is something else: finishing. Finishing an experiment. Turning results into a clean graph. Turning graphs into a clear figure. Defining the scope of a project and bringing it to the point where it becomes a manuscript, a paper. This is harder than it sounds. In science, there is always one more control, one more experiment, one more improvement, one more idea to add. And very often, this stretches a project from weeks into months, and from months into years. Learning when to stop is just as important as learning how to start. One of the most valuable scientific skills is not having an idea, but being able to take an idea to completion — without adding much more than what is truly needed. Science does not only reward creativity. It also rewards the discipline to finish.
